Department of Economics

The Department of Economics at Mahila Art’s Commerce College, Chandur Railway, previous name Mahila Mahavidyalaya has been an integral part of the institution since its inception in August 1991. Established under the management of the Vidarbha Youth Welfare Society, Amravati, the college was founded with a noble vision—to provide quality higher education exclusively for women, especially those belonging to rural areas.

The Department of Economics began its academic journey in 1991, with a commitment to developing students’ analytical abilities, economic understanding, and social awareness. Over the years, the department has continuously worked to empower young women with knowledge that strengthens their academic foundation and prepares them for careers in various fields such as banking, education, government services, research, and entrepreneurship.

With a focus on student-centric learning, the department emphasizes conceptual clarity, real-world applications, and value-based education. Various academic activities, including lectures, group discussions, classroom seminars, and project work, are regularly conducted to enhance students’ understanding of economic issues.

The department remains dedicated to its mission of contributing to the educational progress of women from rural and semi-urban backgrounds by fostering a supportive, inclusive, and academically enriching environment.
