Department - English
The Department of English has been functioning since the inception of Mahila Arts & Commerce College, Chandur Railway, in 1991. The college was founded with the vision of providing higher education exclusively for women, especially those belonging to rural and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The institution, managed by the Vidarbha Youth Welfare Society, Amravati, aims to empower young women through quality education and holistic development.
The department began its academic journey in 1991, Since then, the Department of English has grown steadily, enriching the academic environment of the institution through dedicated teaching, dynamic learning methods, and student-centered activities. The department is committed to developing students’ language proficiency, communication skills, literary insight, and critical thinking abilities.
A significant milestone in the department’s progress has been the establishment of the University-Recognized Research Centre in English, which commenced in January 2018. The Research Centre provides a platform for advanced study, research guidance, and scholarly exploration in English literature and language. It strengthens the academic foundation of the department and encourages research culture among students and scholars.
Over the years, the Department of English has contributed immensely to empowering women by enhancing their academic competence and preparing them for diverse career opportunities, competitive examinations, and higher education. Through its inclusive teaching approach and commitment to academic excellence, the department continues to inspire young women to pursue knowledge and achieve their goals.
